Derek Ashley Porter, age 60, of Piedmont, SC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 13, 2026. Born in Greenville, SC,  Derek was a devoted husband, loving father, and a cherished member of Powdersville First Baptist Church.

After graduating from Greenville Technical College with a degree in Information Technology, Derek built a successful career in Database Administration. Known for his outgoing personality, generous spirit, and willingness to help anyone in need, Derek made friends wherever he went.

An avid outdoorsman, Derek found immense joy in camping, hiking, and especially fly fishing. He turned his passion into an art—professionally tying trout and bass flies and serving as a skilled angling instructor, guiding individuals and groups across the rivers and streams of the Carolinas. He was also an active member of the local Trout Unlimited chapter in Greenville, SC, always eager to share his extensive knowledge with others. Above all, his greatest devotion was to his family.

Derek was preceded in death by his grandparents, Judge Cebrooks and Elizabeth Holloway Porter of Powdersville, SC, and Clebon Henry and Eileen Keel Sutherland of Laurens, SC; his brother-in-law, James Allen Carroll of Liberty, SC; and his nephew, Justin Lee May of Morristown, TN.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Renea Carroll Porter, and his cherished daughter, Madison Ashley Porter, both of Piedmont, SC. He is also survived by his father, Donald Edward Porter, Sr. and his mother, Judith Sutherland Porter. He also leaves behind his brother, Donald Edward Porter, Jr. (Shannon) of Piedmont, SC; brother-in-law, David Allen Carroll (Diana); sister-in-law, Gail Carroll Graves (David); nieces and nephews Sarah Mackenzie Porter, Seth Porter, Grant Porter (Gabryella), Matthew Carroll, Shelby May, Alison Graves, and Lauren Graves; as well as a host of extended family members and close friends.

A memorial celebration of Derek’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Powdersville First Baptist Church (4212 SC-153 N, Easley, SC 29642), officiated by Pastors Miles Bridges and Chad Lawson. The family will receive friends during a visitation immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Powdersville First Baptist Church.

The Porter and Carroll families extend their deepest gratitude to Pastor Miles Bridges, Family Pastor Chad Lawson and the entire church staff for their compassion, kindness and extraordinary hands-on service during this difficult time. Their personal care made this memorial service possible and ensured it was a beautiful tribute to our loved one. We are deeply grateful to all they have done.
