Elizabeth "Liz"
Weinstein
May 6, 1942 — September 21, 2026
Seneca
Elizabeth “Liz” Mulholland Grimwade Weinstein, affectionately known to family and friends as “Mimi,” age 84, of Seneca, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026.
Born in 1942, Mimi attended Evanston Township High School with the class of 1959. She spent years raising her young family and settled in Woodridge, Illinois, with her husband, Ed. She worked in various office administrative positions before becoming Branch Administrator for Ambassador Canon USA, from which she retired at age 60.
After retirement, Mimi and Ed enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and made several memorable trips to France with Ed’s brother Donald and his beloved wife, Jane. In 2012, after over 40 years in Woodridge, Mimi and Ed moved to Seneca, South Carolina, where their children gradually began to settle as well, bringing the family closer together.
Family was at the heart of Mimi’s life. She cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and friends. She was a woman whose warmth, kindness, and gentle humor left a lasting impression on the many people fortunate enough to have known her. She loved gathering on holidays, sharing meals, and had a gift for making people feel welcomed. To many, Mimi was much more than a friend or relative as her affection extended far beyond her immediate family. She was a second mother, a trusted companion, a role model, and a steady presence in the lives of those she loved.
Mimi was preceded in death by her parents, Eric and Pauline Grimwade; her husband, Edwin “Ed” Weinstein; her brothers Patrick Mulholland, Daniel Mulholland, and Anthony Grimwade; her grandson Jeremy Stella; and her granddaughter Micalah Sembach.
She is survived by her brother Richard; her five children, Michael Sembach, Seanine (Bruce) Bowen, Patrick (Rhianna) Sembach, Kathleen Layton-Harper, and Timothy (Lisa) Sembach; and her beloved grandchildren, Erica, Jackson, Nicholas, Steven, Sean, Lauren, Kyle, Amanda, and Dominic. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many others whom she loved and welcomed as part of her family.
Mimi’s legacy is not only in the family she leaves behind, but in the many people who felt personally loved by her. For some she was family by blood; for others, family by choice. Her kindness was gentle, her love was generous, and the memories she created will continue to be shared by those whose lives she touched.
In keeping with Mimi’s wishes, her body was donated to the Anatomy Foundation in North Carolina for education and research. She will be cremated, and her remains will be returned within a year. At that time, she will be buried beside her husband, Ed, at the M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, South Carolina. A memorial service will be held at that time, with details to be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mimi’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
Brown Funerals is assisting the family.
