Gary Ernest DeWachter, 74, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2026, following an extended illness.

Born on May 30, 1952, in South Bend, Indiana, Gary was the son of George and Katie DeWachter. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1970 and spent most of his professional career with Dodge/Reliance Electric/Baldor, serving as Manager of the Research and Development Laboratory and Facilities Manager. During his career, Gary was awarded six patents for inventions developed for Reliance Electric.

Gary was a devoted dog lover and a lifelong Notre Dame fan. He was happiest spending time on the lake, embracing the belief that it was always “Five O’Clock Somewhere.”

Gary is survived by his former wife, Fredie DeWachter, and their three children, Heather Williamson, Ryan DeWachter, and Jenny Moore; eight grandchildren; his sisters, Cathy Rice and Susan Petty; and his beloved French Bulldog, Corby.

Those wishing to honor Gary’s memory are encouraged to make a donation to a food bank, animal rescue organization, or pet shelter of their choice.
