Irene Nowocien Grant, 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by love and her family on June 27, 2026. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished sister, proud grandmother, and dear friend. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and loved ones, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Born on January 12, 1957, in Karlsruhe, Germany, Irene lived a life defined by compassion, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. The daughter of Olga and Wladyslaw Nowocien, she was the oldest of three children. She grew up in Blankenloch, a small village in Germany, where she later attended nursing school. During that time, she welcomed her daughter, Natalie, who sadly passed away at a young age.
On October 31, 1986, Irene married the love of her life, Joe David Grant Sr. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories. In 1990, they made the United States their home, first settling in Fayetteville, North Carolina, before moving to Seneca, South Carolina, where they lived for 33 years. They later settled in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Irene was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Olga and Wladyslaw Nowocien, and her daughter, Natalie. She is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Joe David Grant of the Home; her children, Anthony Maurice Grant of Cornelius, North Carolina, Joe David (Greta) Grant II of Fort Mill, South Carolina, and Chantal Roxanne Grant of Columbia, South Carolina; her cherished grandchildren, Joe David Grant III, Emma Reagan Grant, Landon Craig Grant, and Elijah Zion Grant; her brother, Waldemar Nowocien; and numerous extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Family was the center of Irene’s world. She found her greatest joy in spending time with those she loved, especially her grandchildren, whose smiles and laughter brought her endless happiness. She was known for always putting the needs of others before her own, offering encouragement, support, and unconditional love to everyone around her.
As a dedicated and compassionate nurse, Irene spent many years caring for others before retiring in 2021. Her career reflected the kindness and empathy she demonstrated throughout her life. She was admired for her passionate spirit, outspoken nature, and unwavering love for her family. She also had a special place in her heart for her beloved pets, who were treasured members of the family.
Though she will be greatly missed, Irene leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and selflessness that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service celebrating Irene’s life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home, 700 Heckle Boulevard, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
