Jack Cain was born in Rockford, Illinois in 1959 to Margaret and Doug Cain. During his childhood, his family relocated to the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia, where Jack excelled scholastically and athletically. When faced with the decision of accepting a full scholarship to the Citadel in Charleston or the chance to prove himself as a walk-on for the Clemson football team, he — with the support of his loving father — chose to be a Tiger. During his Clemson career, the Tigers trounced Ohio State in the 1978 Gator Bowl. Jack became one of the most renowned free safety’s in Clemson history, setting multiple tackle records and winning the illustrious Brian Piccolo Award for exemplifying courage through adversity. He fondly remembered the sound of over 80,000 fans cheering for him during home games. Jack later embarked on a successful professional career and developed an affinity for reading crime fiction novels in his free time. He was then inducted into MENSA, or the “genius society,” reserved for people scoring in the top 2% of a standardized IQ exam. He is most proud of the way he raised his only child. He is survived by his daughter, Tyler, Tyler’s husband, Colin, and his siblings: Tom, Barb, and Marybeth.
