On October 20, 2025, at 7:45 AM, on a beautiful, cool Fall Day, Marlyn Lee Billet, age 96, formerly of York, PA, passed away with his daughter Lisa and son-in-law Jeff closely by his side.
Marlyn was born in York, PA on July 5, 1929, the son of George and Norah Billet. The Great Depression began the year of Marlyn’s birth, and he often told his family that he and his brother Gerald and sisters June and Pauline had very little, but neither did anyone else. Those years made a lasting impression on Marlyn, he would strive to give his family more than what he had as a child. World War II would begin and end while Marlyn completed his education at York High School (class of 1947).
During his high school years Marlyn became an avid sports fan. Baseball would become his love, and it was at a game where he also met another love, Janice Mary Brickner, whom he married on October 22, 1949.
In their first years of marriage, Marlyn was offered a baseball contract with the Philadelphia Phillies Farm Team. He declined the offer as he felt that as a new husband his responsibilities remained in York with his wife.
In 1952 Marlyn enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He served for 2 years as a flight radar technician. During his enlistment Marlyn and Janice welcome a son, Thomas Charles Billet, born on September 1, 1953 (now deceased). A daughter, Lisa Ann Billet, was added to their family of four on January 29, 1959.
Marlyn shared 57 years of marriage with Janice until she passed away in 2006. Marlyn’s grief was so great that an offer to live with Lisa and Jeff was accepted. During his spare time, Marlyn would keep busy with model ship building, swimming, “betting on the ponies” at Penn National and tandem parasailing on cruises with Lisa and Jeff. Of all his pastimes, however, his favorite was Saturday Penn State Football armchair coaching with his son-in-law Jeff. Marlyn was also a lover of animals and his home was never complete without a canine companion.
Marlyn’s life was also blessed with 4 grandchildren; Jason Blouse of Butler, PA, Alyson Arnold (Matthew) of Sanford, NC, Tiffany Hoffman of Manchester, and Derek Hoffman (Sophia) of York, PA, 4 great grand-children; Madison Blouse of Charleston, SC, Elaina Murray Rodriguez (Joseph) of York, PA, Easton Murray of York, PA, and Austin Berry of York, PA. This past July Marlyn also became a great-great grandfather with the birth of Elaina and Joe’s son; Elias Rodriguez.
Marlyn will always be remembered as a loving and kind man who always put his family and their needs first…he was a treasure. Go rest high on that mountain Big Dad.
The family will have a private ceremony at their convenience. We would like to extend our love and appreciation to all the members of Hospice of the Foothills, Seneca, South Carolina.
