Marty DeWayne Grissom, 48, of Piedmont, South Carolina, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Tennessee, he made South Carolina his home for many years, building a life defined by hard work, generosity, and love.

A true jack of all trades and a master mechanic, Marty could fix just about anything – but his greatest gift was how he cared for people. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back, the most generous soul you’d ever meet. His hands built and repaired, but his heart gave endlessly. He was a devoted father to his three children, a loving son to his mother, and a kind, generous man to all who met him.

Marty carried a deep passion for history and the simple beauty of the outdoors. He loved finding rocks, fishing by quiet waters, and spending time in nature– places where he felt most at peace. His life was guided by honor, kindness, and a fierce devotion to family. He stood up for those who couldn’t stand for themselves and taught everyone around him what it meant to live with integrity.

He is preceded in death by his father Lloyd Grissom, his step father Charles S. Burns, his grandfather Morris Green and grandmother Birdie K. Green.

He is survived by his three children; Tristen, Alexis, and Naomi Grissom; his son-in-law Austin Suttle; Anne Burns, his three grandchildren, Ariya, Colton, and Elijah Grissom-Suttle; his mother, Anne Burns; his fiancée , Maria Campbell; his brother and sister, Jeremy and Rachel; and his niece and nephew, Katelen Grissom and Cameron Owens.

Each of them carries a piece of his spirit – his laughter, his strength, and his boundless generosity.

The family invites friends and loved ones to share memories and celebrate Marty’s life Wednesday, September 9th, at 11:00AM in the Chapel of Brown Funerals in Seneca. His was a life that touched so many hearts and left the world a kinder place. His hands may rest, but his heart lives on in the love he gave so freely.
