Melody Clarke was a beautiful dancer. She met her husband Lee at a San Francisco YMCA sock hop, and after their first jitterbug, she knew he was the one. She even abandoned vacation plans to ensure she was there the following week to see him again. The pair married and soon had 3 children, Mark, Marcie, and Julie. Melody was a devoted Wife and Mother. Having grown up as the only child of a single mom, she loved nothing more than having a family of her own. She took special care to ensure her kids did well in school, so that they learned every skill needed to be successful. And she set the best example for them by working hard at everything she did. Melody felt that any job worth doing was worth doing well. When their home needed a new roof, she and Lee installed it themselves. Anytime the house needed painting, she climbed up on a ladder and got to work. And when the kids were old enough, she worked part-time at a Delicatessen, eventually becoming a manager. But, even in the midst of work, there was always time for fun, and on rainy days, the kids learned to dance and play cards. Melody was such a wonderful Mother that her love of parenting carried over to her children, who gave her seven grandchildren, who then gave her ten great-grandchildren. Eventually, Melody and Lee retired to Oregon and spent many family reunions on the coast. Melody enjoyed her last few years in Pickens, South Carolina, where Lee's family used to live – a place filled with fond memories.
As Melody was passing peacefully at home, she looked to the left side of the bed and asked someone only she could see, “ Where are we going?” She smiled at the answer and responded, “Oh, good.”
Although Melody’s dancing days had waned over the past years, her family is sure that she is now dancing in Heaven.
