Patricia Ann Garretson, 92 of Chickasaw Point, Westminster, South Carolina, affectionately known as Pat, Mom, Grammy, GG, was born in Indiana to her late parents, William D. and Lillian Mae (Deakin) Curtis, on November 18, 1933. She passed away peacefully as God called her home on January 24, 2026 at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James Robert Garretson. Together, they built a life based on love and devotion to family and founded in the principles and love for God. Indiana is where they chose to raise their three surviving children, Mark Garretson (Kelly), Anne Ewing, and Shelly Stephens (Robin).

Pat is also survived by her sister, Sandra Lee Agnew, and together they grew up in the small town of Howe, Indiana. Her father was the president of the town bank, and it was in that bank that she would eventually work as a teller and meet her future husband, the love of her life. They married in 1954 and spent the next 31 years in Indiana where Pat devoted her life to raising their children, supporting her husband, and making a loving home. She was always the comforting, cheering face her children would see in the stands at every sporting or school event. She was a Brownie leader, a Girl Scout leader, a Den mother, and a PTA member. Her home always smelled of something homemade and daily family homemade dinners were something to look forward to.

When they made the decision to move to Chickasaw Point in 1985, Pat’s deep Indiana roots made the move to South Carolina emotional. It has been said that one can still see the ruts from her heels in the road all the way to South Carolina. She came to terms with the fact that she would, “rot in a rocking chair on their deck in the woods of Chickasaw Point”. But Pat quickly came to love South Carolina and the life she had with her husband there, where they continued their love of golf, card games (especially bridge), social events and outings with the many new friends and family, watching their beloved Indiana Hoosiers basketball, and finding a new love in the Clemson Tigers football team!

Their family grew with six grandchildren, Adam, Mitchell, Emily, Evan, Gretchen and Garrett. Pat poured her love and kindness over each one of them. She organized large family card games, not allowing cheating, where her grandchildren learned the joy of playing cards. Many happy memories were made around the big dining room (card) table! Later, came six great grandchildren, Brody, Cecelia, Archer, Ronnie, Magnolia and Jackson. Pat’s life was full as she cherished each one of her family members, and was heard multiple times saying, “I have had a wonderful life”.

Pat’s memory will live on in her family, where her kindness and loving spirit will inspire. We are so thankful for the love and care of those at the Cottingham Hospice House. She was treated with respect, dignity, and gentleness by all who cared for her there and were a comforting support to family members. If you would like to honor Pat, donations can be made to Hospice of the Foothills Cottingham house.

A celebration of life will be held in Indiana at a later date.
