Robert Larry WishamRobert Larry Wisham, 73, of Central, South Carolina, passed away on October 2, 2026. Known to everyone simply as Larry, he never met a stranger, and he leaves behind a wide circle of family and friends whose lives were richer, louder, and a good deal funnier for having known him. Larry was born February 9, 1953, in Anderson, SC, to A.M. "Bill" Wisham and Edith Lackey Wisham.

He graduated from Daniel High School in 1971, where he was known for football, for music, and for being the oldest of an infamous group of Wisham siblings who produced significant laughter and occasional havoc across the Daniel school system and much of Central. Right out of high school, Larry took up welding and construction inspection. He eventually rose to Vice President of a large international construction and engineering company, responsible for projects ranging from nuclear power sites to massive dams.

Everywhere he went, he was known as a masterful team builder and analytical person, and the relationships he built continue to shape the industry today. His true passion, though, was music. Larry taught himself guitar in his early teens, unlocking a remarkable talent that made him an exceptional lead guitarist and session musician, with a voice to match. Classic and modern country, Southern rock, blues, and new-generation Americana: he could play it all, and he was never more in his element than sitting around a barbecue, picking and singing with friends and family.

Larry’s life was measured in friendships and experiences. Over the years he dabbled in all kinds of hobbies and adventures, at times fancying himself a master chef, a wine sommelier, a professional bass fisherman, or a man golfing on the PGA Tour. Anyone who ever played a round with him can tell you that last one was certainly debatable. His love and loyalty to family and friends ran deep and without reservation. In his later years, his bond with his grandson Parker invigorated him. The two shared a love of and talent for music, and through Parker, Larry passed on to one more generation of Wisham’s the example of what a positive life focused on people can do.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Bill, and Edith Wisham; his brother, John Wisham; and his nephew, Dusty Mullinax. He is survived by his son, Robert Jason "Jay" Wisham, and daughter-in-law, Heather Wisham, of Austin, Texas; his grandson, Robert Parker Wisham; his brother, Dale Wisham (Debbie); his sisters, Connie Mullinax (Billy) and Joette McDougal (James); his nephews, Hunter Wisham and Ryan McDougal; and his nieces, Meggan Rackley and Caela McDougal, his great nephew's, Dylan Whitaker, Dawson Whitaker, Drey Mullinax, Dustin Reece, Hayden Wisham, a great-niece, Riley Wisham, and a great-great niece, Hosslynn Whitaker. He was formerly married to Pamela Revels Long, Jay's mother

In keeping with the way Larry lived, there will be no somber ceremony. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at Larry's home, 119 Martin Circle, Central, SC, on Saturday, October 17, at 1:00 p.m. Come in casual weekend clothes and expect music, food, and plenty of stories. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Larry's memory to Hospice of the Foothills, Attn: Foundation Office, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca, SC 29672.
