Ruby S. Hardy

Ruby Elizabeth Skinner Hardy, 88, of Liberty, SC, wife of George L. Hardy, Jr. for 61 years, died peacefully on October 26, 2025, at Prisma Health Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, SC, after complications from a stroke and Alzheimer’s.

Born January 17, 1937, in Ware Shoals, SC, Ruby was the daughter of her late parents, Thomas Marvin and Elizabeth Page Skinner. She graduated from Ware Shoals High School and then went on to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC, to receive her degree in nursing. She worked as a registered nurse for several years.

After marrying George in June of 1964, they settled in Clemson, SC. Once their first daughter arrived, she became a full-time homemaker, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother.

Ruby was also well known for decades in the area as being a very active member of the English Norris, SC, Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. While her health allowed it, she was busy in the ministry. Ruby deeply loved her God, Jehovah; His Son, Jesus; her family; and the hundreds of friends whom she considered family. She firmly believed in the Bible’s hope of the resurrection and talked about enjoying life soon on a paradise earth as Jesus promised.

She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Lisa McKeel and husband, Kenny, and Kerri Gray and husband, Scott, of Liberty, SC; one sister, Jane Corley of Johnston, SC; sisters-in-law, Zell Skinner of Ware Shoals, SC, and Carol Bryan of Edgefield, SC; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by five brothers, Paul, Ralph, Carroll, Joe, James Alfred, and a sister, Alma Lee Skinner.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the many doctors, medical staff, home caregivers, and hospice staff who helped her. Thanks, too, to all the families and friends that have been supportive through this difficult time.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 12 noon at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 105 S. Norris Drive (Highway 93), Norris, SC.
