Susan Cope
Cox
September 29, 1951 – May 30, 2026
Susan Cope Cox, 74, passed away peacefully and surrounded by love, on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at McCall Hospice House, Simpsonville, SC. Born on September 29, 1951, she grew up in Central, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Mrs. Mollie Sue Peyton Cope and the late Hovey W. Cope. Her Christian faith was central to her being, shaping the way she loved, cared, and showed compassion to everyone she met.
Susan lived a life defined by fierce devotion to her family, a sharp mind, a mischievous streak, and a heart that never stopped caring for others. She was sassy, smart, independent, stubborn in the most endearing ways, and genuinely kind. She never met a stranger and always noticed those in need. Her love of music was legendary — if a song had a good beat, she was already dancing.
She adored Clemson football and baseball, loved to shop, and treasured every chance to travel. Her happiest trips were spent on the Carolina coast with her family, where laughter and memories came easily. She also found joy in gardening potted plants, nurturing them with the same care she gave to people. And she had a passion for great food — especially her son‑in‑law Jay’s cheeseburgers, which she insisted were the best anywhere.
Susan worked as a Customer Service Representative for AT&T for over 30 years, where she was known for her tenacity, compassion, and ability to brighten even the toughest days. She lived by the simple but powerful belief: “Always treat others the way you want to be treated.” And she did.
She is survived by her daughter, Lea Cox Holder; her son‑in‑law, Jay Holder; her grandson, Jackson Holder, the absolute light of her life, all of Greer, SC; and her sister‑in‑law, Libby Cope, of Anderson, SC, whom she loved dearly and considered a best friend. She was predeceased by her brother, Harold W. Cope, whom she loved deeply and carried in her heart throughout her life.
Her family will forever miss her humor, her stubborn charm, her advice, and her ability to turn ordinary moments into cherished memories. A celebration of Susan’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be shared once arrangements are finalized. The family invites friends and loved ones to honor her by sharing a memory, offering a kindness to someone in need, or dancing to a song with a good beat — she would have loved that. The family ask that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to a charity of one's choice.
Brown Funerals is assisting the family.
