Celebrating the Life of Thomas John Smagala
Six Mile, SC — Thomas John Smagala, age 74, passed away peacefully on July 16th 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Thomas was born to the late Hedwig Flasinski and Joseph F. Smagala. Thomas graduated from Archmere Academy High School and Widener University. A renowned Aerospace engineer led Tom to a career in the Baltimore, MD-Washington D.C. area, working for many companies on projects that he loved.
Born on June 24th 1952 in Brookhaven, PA. Thomas lived a life defined by Quiet Strength and Redemption in his Lord Jesus Christ. Throughout his life, he was known for his dedication to his family and his passion for the beautification and preservation of Goose Creek State Park located in Washington, NC. Prior to him falling ill he found peace in his home located in Bath, NC. He enjoyed most reading his Bible, and being at peace in nature. Tom loved to relax by watching his Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers games.
Thomas's warmth, quick wit, and gentle nature left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his Son and daughter in law, Brett and Kimberly Smagala and their two children Stone and Nola. His Daughter and her husband, Brittany and Robert Tennant and his life long significant other Donna Smagala, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Smagala.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that in his honor donations be made to Friends of Goose Creek State Park, 2190 Camp Leach Road Washington, NC 27889.
