Vicki Lyn Holmes, 63, of Walhalla, passed away while under hospice care at Greenville Memorial Hospital on July 10, 2025.
Born on January 15, 1962, Vicki was the eldest of four children born to the late Bobby and Faye Shead. Of the four, she was the only one to inherit Bobby's fiery red hair. She also inherited his stubbornness. At the then legal age of seventeen, defiantly lit up a cigarette and proceeded to smoke in front of her father. That decision led to an addiction she regretted for the rest of her life. However, this petite, red-haired spitfire also used her feistiness in defense of others. There are countless stories of her serving as a confidante or interceding when a bully threatened her children, friends, or even a stranger.
Vicki was ultimately a woman of simple pleasures. She enjoyed fishing, reminiscing with friends, small talk with neighbors, throwing absolutely everything into the crockpot, and sharing ice cream with kids and dogs. Her greatest delights were her grandsons, Zack and Ezra, whom she showed off every chance she could.
Vicki experienced great losses in her life. Because of this, in her latter years, she began adding "I love you" to her goodbyes to everyone. "Because you never know when our last time will be."
She is survived by her daughter, Ashley Mullinix, a son, Aller Shook (Alison), two sisters, Jean Shead, and Kim (Kevin) Gasque, and one brother, Michael Shead. Other survivors include her two Grandsons, Zack and Ezra.
In addition to her parents, Vicki was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Shook, a nephew, Christopher Shead, and her great-nephew, Samuel Bryant.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The family is at their respective homes.
In place of flowers, the family asks that donations for final expenses be made to the Cremation Society of SC - Brown Funeral Home, 864-200-2068.
