Wilma Jaynes Rankin, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, in Seneca, South Carolina. Born on December 26, 1931, in Oconee County, South Carolina, her life was a rich tapestry woven with passion, creativity, and a profound dedication to her community and family.
Wilma enjoyed a celebrated career in the fashion industry, making her mark as a prominent fashion designer. She was not merely a designer but also a guiding light for many aspiring creators, serving as a lead instructor at the Hamilton Career Center. Her influence in the field of clothing construction extended to academia, where she authored the "Clothing Construction Manual" for the University of Tennessee, helping shape the educational landscape for future fashion designers.
In addition to her achievements in fashion, Wilma made history in 1975 by becoming the third woman realtor in Oconee County, showcasing her versatility and commitment to excellence in all her endeavors. She earned her Master's Degree in Clothing Construction from Clemson University, further cementing her position as an expert in her field.
Her family remembers Wilma not just for her professional accomplishments but for her loving nature and devotion. She is survived by her son, Dan Rankin (Theresa); granddaughter, Lori Rankin; and grandson, Matthew Adams (Heidi). Wilma shared a special bond with her sister, Bonnie Collins (Andrew "Jack"), who will carry on her legacy of strength and independence.
Wilma was a true animal lover, finding joy and companionship in her cat, Tiger, and her bulldog, Pug. The affection she held for her furry friends was a testament to her nurturing spirit.Wilma was a devout Christian and member of Trinity Baptist Church for 25 years.
Wilma’s final years were spent receiving care and attention at The Oaks, where she was surrounded by a devoted staff whose kindness and support made a difference in her life. The family extends a special thank you to them for their compassion during her time there.
Wilma Jaynes Rankin’s spirit will live on through her family and the countless individuals she inspired throughout her remarkable life. Friends and family can pay their respects during the visitation on October 2, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, both held at the Cremation Society of South Carolina - Brown Funerals in Seneca. A burial will take place shortly thereafter at Oconee Memorial Park.
Her legacy of love, creativity, and dedication will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
